Which is better, Invisalign or braces?
When you are looking to straighten your teeth, it can be tough to decide what treatment option is right for you.
There are pros and cons to each. Is Invisalign better than braces or is it the other way around?
What do braces do?
Traditional braces are made of metal and attached to the front of the teeth. The braces will have wires, brackets and rubber bands that help to guide the teeth into their new positions.
Should I get braces?
When deciding if you should get braces, keep in mind that you'll need to visit your orthodontist periodically for adjustments and maintain excellent dental hygiene. Brushing and flossing your teeth every day will be critical to ensuring food and bacteria don't become trapped between your teeth and your braces.
What type of braces should I get?
Traditional metal braces are the most popular choice. This is the type we use here at Vincelli Orthodontics.
What does Invisalign do?
Treatment using Invisalign is the use of clear, plastic aligners to shift the teeth. You will change to a new set of aligners at regular intervals during treatment.
Should I get Invisalign?
With Invisalign, you should consider whether you would like a more hands-on approach as you will be able to remove the aligners for eating and oral hygiene. Keep in mind that you will also need to be disciplined about using them for 22 hours each day.
Invisalign vs. Braces
When deciding whether braces are better than Invisalign or vice versa, you will need to consider your orthodontic needs and lifestyle. Generally, the success of either depends on whether the right treatment option was chosen for the issue at hand and how well you adhere to your treatment plan. Caring for your braces or clear aligners by keeping them clean and undamaged is also key to successful treatment.
